002"-.003", I would be wary of the lathe. ![]() There will be some wear visible where the carriage rides on the bed. Look at the bed in the area close to the headstock. The Atlas is a flat bed lathe, and prone to wear. The main thing to look at in an Atlas especially is wear in the bed. That lathe looks to be pretty clean, and as described. The Atlas is a good lathe, and quite useful for the home shop. The guy says he has 600.00 in new parts in it, coincidentally, that's his asking price. it has a new compound, new change gears, and a new motor.Tooling included is:3 jaw buck chuck, live center, steady rest, drill chuck. ![]() The lathe is a an Atlas 10f th54 from the 40's. projects include: set of punches, set of ball peen hammers, carpenters plumb bob. I'm attending Machine Shop class one night a week and would like to use this lathe to help me keep making chips for the other six nights of the week. I realise a South Bend would be a better lathe, but, in 3 months of looking this is the best I've seen in my area and I'm growing a little impatient. ![]() Hi, This weekend I'll be looking at an Atlas 10x36 lathe.(included are some pics) I would like some input and opinions on this lathe and Atlas in general.
